COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Our outreach committee offers opportunities for members to use their photographic skills in broader community service, with the goal of providing support and experiences to individuals and community organizations through teaching, displaying, and assisting.

Focus on Climate

Focus on Climate is an initiative to provide photographic services pro bono to local nonprofit and public organizations involved with climate-change-related work.  Founded by the North Bethesda Camera Club in the spring of 2021, the group is initially supporting two highly involved organizations:  the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection and the Potomac Riverkeeper Network.  As we move forward, we plan to add more clients with clear connections to climate change.

Phabulous Photographers

In one ongoing outreach program, we work with Potomac Community Resources, Inc. (PCR) to teach basic photographic techniques to PCR’s members. PCR is a private, non-profit, non-sectarian organization that encourages and supports the integration of persons with developmental differences into the life of the community.

We sponsor the “Phabulous Photographers” who currently meet at Lone Oak Center, 1010 Grandin Ave, Rockville on the first Tuesday of each month from 7:00 pm-8:00 pm. Contact Joel Hoffman for more information about this enjoyable and worthwhile activity.

Montgomery County High School Photography Program

Our club also sponsors the Montgomery County High School Photography Program at Magruder High School in which club members make photo presentations to classes, judge photo contests, and give awards to deserving students, as well as donate film cameras, lenses, cases, etc. For information, contact Cat Simmons.
